Service Manager

About the Role

The Service Technician is the hands-on face of NuTek Machinery in the field — installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the premium European woodworking machinery we sell, and supporting our customers and dealers directly by phone and on site. Because NuTek handles parts and service in-house rather than through third parties, this role is central to customer uptime and to the NuTek reputation. You'll work largely independently at customer facilities across North America and represent the company in every interaction.

What You'll Do

  • Troubleshooting & repair — diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control-system faults on edgebanders, CNC routers, and boring/drilling centers, on site and remotely.
  • Installation — install and commission new machinery: leveling, electrical and pneumatic hookup, calibration, and run-off verification.
  • Phone & remote support — help customers and dealers diagnose issues, identify parts, and resolve problems without a site visit when possible.
  • Preventative maintenance — keep customer equipment running at peak uptime.
  • Training — train customer operators and dealer personnel on proper machine use and maintenance.
  • Trade shows — represent NuTek at industry shows such as IWF (Atlanta) and the AWFS Fair (Las Vegas): setup, demonstrations, booth staffing, and teardown.
  • Documentation — record service activity with clear, professional reports.
  • Other duties as prescribed by management to support the Service & Parts department.

Customer Relations & Professionalism

Customer relations and satisfaction are the highest priority of this role. You're often the only NuTek representative a customer sees, and every visit, call, and trade-show interaction shapes how they view the company. We expect a professional appearance and demeanor at all times; clear, honest, respectful communication; prompt follow-through on commitments; and integrity in representing NuTek's standards and brand.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 2+ years of field service, maintenance, or technical experience on industrial or woodworking machinery (or an equivalent military or technical background).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to read electrical schematics and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Comfort diagnosing PLC- and CNC-controlled equipment, and willingness to learn manufacturer-specific control systems.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record; valid passport, or willingness to obtain one, for factory training abroad.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays and trips on short notice.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.

Preferred

  • Field-service experience on the types of machinery NuTek sells and services — edgebanders, CNC routers, and boring/drilling centers.
  • Hands-on experience with the control systems used on this kind of equipment, such as Beckhoff.
  • Familiarity with edgebanding, CNC routing, or six-sided boring processes and tooling.
  • Trade-school or associate-level training in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly pay, plus bonuses for billable field hours and completed installations.
  • Mileage reimbursement at the IRS standard rate, with company-paid airfare and lodging when you travel.
  • Health coverage, paid vacation, and paid sick time.
  • Paid manufacturer training — including factory training in Europe.
  • Genuine advancement opportunities as we build out our Service and Parts departments.

Working Conditions

Active manufacturing-floor work: standing, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs, with occasional confined or elevated positions. Frequent travel by vehicle and air with overnight stays, and some weekend or after-hours response during installations or critical downtime.
